A Giving Tuesday Mindset
I am sitting at my desk on Giving Tuesday composing this post and questioning myself whether I have a giving heart. What about you?
Sometimes we do. Often, we don't.
This season is already so hectic trying to think of all our others. Our others already have pretty much all they need.
In the spirit of giving...I wanted to post again what I shared this time last year. So here goes it again...
🎄🧧🎄🧧🎄🧧🎄
Do you remember what you were gifted last year at Christmas? Neither do I. Maybe there is that one gift - the bicycle at age 5 - but after that the memory gets blurry.
That collection of Beanie Babies we searched the world over to find now collect dust in our attic space just taking up space. We counted on them being worth good money one day but one day is today and no one is willing to pay.
Tickle Me Elmo. Where is he now?
Latest Amazon deliveries will become the has-beens of tomorrow.
With all that in mind, why do we lose our minds frantically frolicking to and fro to buy that extra special person something extra special? They too will quickly forget what was gifted to them...just like us.
We do this search and conquer mission out of love, of course. Must it require every waking minute and each saved cent?
This all happens during what is to be the most sacred season of the year.
The older we get the more gifts we buy and more ribbons we tie. We should ask ourselves if this is really necessary to tie our heart strings to those closest to our heart.
Of course not. We know not.
It's what we do. It's what to do.
If we want to think of others, let's remember the others who will truly remember our gift - even for many years to come.
May I suggest your consideration of Operation Christmas Child. It is a wonderful ministry of Samaritans Purse. Over 200 million shoebox gifts have been delivered to children in 180 countries across the globe. This is often the first and only gift a child will ever receive. I have heard testimony after testimony of the impact one shoebox can make on one child. They sleep with their new stuffed animal, wear their slinky as a bracelet not knowing it's a toy, and cherish their 1st personal toothbrush not having to share one with everyone else in the orphanage.
Why am I mentioning Operation Christmas Child to you? Because giving doesn't have to be expensive, challenging, or difficult. You can make a profound difference in your giving without moving an inch off your comfy couch. The process of giving a shoebox greeting to a child is streamlined and made super easy...super affordable...super quick. A flat $25 and 3 minute investment will bless a child in the hardest to reach regions of the world.
This program is called "Build A Shoebox Online." You can personalize a gift and send it on its way with a few simple clicks.
Please consider "BASBO" while you're in a Giving Tuesday mindset this week. Let me know if you did and if you enjoyed the ease of giving in this way.
