Good Things Come in Small Packages
Apartment #3401
For now, we call it home. Home Sweet Home. Apartment Sweet Apartment.
I've found apartment living to be not so bad after all. After all, good things do come in small packages.
Four months ago, I wouldn't have predicted this positive response. Today, I can truly proclaim some of the benefits of apartment living. A big 'ole house is great but a simple 2-bedroom apartment has its merit as well.
No one in their right mind would choose to move 2x in 4 months. Right? Ideally you would move directly from one address into another. That's what we used to think. We couldn't so we didn't. Now we're glad we didn't. 😊😊
Packing and moving a large home of 24 years was exhausting and back-breaking. My aching back needed a break. It got one in apartment living. This was unexpected. A welcomed and much-needed break was gifted to me by surprise. I got to take a break before beginning to unpack all those boxes I had just sealed with roll after roll of packing tape. If we had moved directly into our new home, this break wouldn't have been possible. Too many boxes would have been calling my name. It was nice to have next-to-nothing calling my name during this in- between season.
I had so much to do to get to this point. I didn't realize how necessary this respite would be. I needed less to do of all my to do's. My apartment came to my rescue. I felt bad I hadn't given it the recognition and appreciation it deserved. Now I do.
Apartment #3401 represents less manual labor. I could just be. There isn't much to set up and organize for temporary living. No pictures must be hung. No trinkets to display. All that is packed away for another day. That day will come soon enough. Today I get to display less and do less. What a relief!
I can happily use 6 plates and 3 mugs over and over again. A smaller array of dishes provides fewer choices and less juggling of them in the cabinet.
If I stretch full out, I can almost put towels in the dryer with my right hand and load the dishwasher with my left. Not exactly but close.
One shower and 2 toilets are quick to clean. Spills on vinyl flooring wipe up easily. No kitchen table needed. The kitchen counter will do just fine.
Repair requests submitted with a mere click. Lawn mowed with no effort of my own.
I find it to be just that...simple. The surprise blessing of a more simplified life.
Simple is refreshing. Simple can be life-giving.
Who doesn't want that?
If you have the opportunity, I might suggest you be open to the option. You then could open yourself to similar simple blessings.
Complexes are popping up everywhere. It's kind of a trend. It shouldn't be hard to find one right for you. Have these benefits motivated you to consider the option?
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Apartment living does have its benefits. Even if it's not in your plan, it might work out to be the best plan in the end. Don't be surprised if you end up being surprised.
In an apartment complex, there's community spirit. There's a common area. There's company to make you feel safe while strolling on star-lit nights. There are neighbors walking their dogs while you walk yours. That means new friends for you and your pooch. Poop bags provided. Coffee provided. Even kombucha provided. I will miss all those perks when I move out of here.
Sounds great. It is but...
It's not all ideal as you might imagine. All is not quiet on the home front. For full disclosure, we do have a herd of antelope living upstairs. This hasn't been confirmed but we believe it to be true! Actually, it's a family with young children. We've only seen 2 of these said children, but we are certain there must be at least 6 for all the commotion they make. The herd typically is released from its stall around 6:00am. The galloping has begun as early as 5:00am. It can become so intense we wonder if they will crash through our ceiling. Hasn't happened yet. We have a few more weeks to know for sure.
The herd settles down pretty late. Those parents can't be getting much sleep either. We don't have the heart to report this noise ordinance violation. If we did, how would these parents keep their kids from running and stomping and whatever else they're doing while corralled in a 1200 square foot apartment? Sounds impossible to me. We did have to resort to the broom handle tap on the ceiling. Only once and only because the antelope were running wild at 11:00pm. We have our limits. We need some sleep. Guess we'll make up for lost sleep on quiet nights in our new neighborhood not too many star-lit nights from now...🌟
Another apartment benefit: Our downsized house is going to feel HUGE after living the simple apartment life. It's been a great 4 months but it's okay to expand just a bit in a bit.
Don't dread a move to apartment living if that's in your future. It may not be your first choice but you might enjoy the benefits more than you think. Most things in life are better than expected. If you find that to be true, then let me know by your comment below.
Thank you for visiting.
